Resources for the Christian Life > Theological topics
The idea of “Theology” sometimes has a bad reputation or makes people nervous. But it shouldn’t. Theology simply means the study of God. We happily study people in terms of anthropology or sociology, or the world in biology. As Christians, it is good and right for us to learn about God and his ways. In fact, every Christian (and everyone) is a theologian.
Theology looks at the whole of the bible’s teaching on a certain topic and tries to synthesise and systematise.
We aren’t the first theologians either, and so it’s always good to learn from those who have come before us. We can do this by learning from the historically accepted documents of the Church such as the creeds and confessions. As part of the Church of Scotland, we subscribe to Apostles Creed, Nicean Creed and the Westminster Confession.
